For the 2016 Edge, Ford Motor Company introduces an innovative new technology that will redefine the idea of "power steering."
Ford's adaptive steering makes it easier for drivers to maneuver a vehicle at low speeds while making the vehicle more fun to drive and agile at high speeds. Adaptive steering is standard on Edge Sport and available on Edge Titanium.
Adaptive steering changes the ratio between the driver's actions at the steering wheel - the number of turns - and how much the front wheels turn. In vehicles without the technology, this is a fixed steering ratio. With adaptive steering, the ratio continually changes with vehicle speed, optimizing the steering response in all conditions. The Ford Edge crossover utility vehicle is visually athletic and engineered with advanced technologies to make the driving experience more rewarding.
The 2016 Edge comes standard with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, tuned to deliver a balanced mix of fuel economy and performance. A normally aspirated, 3.5-liter V-6 engine is also available. A unique Sport model features Ford's most advanced EcoBoost yet -- a 2.7-liter V-6, along with standard 21-inch wheels; this is the highest-performance Edge.
Smart technology is available on Edge to improve efficiency. Auto Start-Stop can improve fuel economy by turning off the engine when it is not needed, such as when the vehicle is stopped at a traffic light. Edge also features smart air inlets at the front that can direct air along the vehicle sides -- creating an "air curtain" -- to enable greater aerodynamic efficiency at high speeds.
Other technology features include Ford's hands-free liftgate, SYNC with MyFord Touch, adaptive cruise control and inflatable rear safety belts.
