New styling, a new engine, and a name change highlight the 2008 Subaru Tribeca.

The B9 moniker has been dropped, and the new front end is designed to provide a more mainstream appearance to the vehicle. The grille is now integrated into the front bumper, while a new spread-wing design, incorporating the Subaru badge, provides a focal point.

Other changes include a raised hood line, a deeper front valance and new headlamps. These changes visually widen and heighten the vehicle. The new grille flows into a silhouette enhanced by new rear three-quarter windows.

Larger side-view mirrors improve outward visibility. The profile view of the new Tribeca features fender well forms that enhance the rising character line that flows along the side of the vehicle. New wider taillamps frame an all-new tailgate and accent the revised lower rear valance.

The new 3.6-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine offers more low-end torque, greater fuel efficiency, and is cheaper to operate, thanks to its ability to operate on regular unleaded fuel. The displacement bump increases torque to 247 lb.-ft., up from 215 over the previous engine. Horsepower is up to 256 from 245. A five-speed automatic transmission routes the newfound power to the wheels.
